My best friend in most likely the entire world, Heidi, recently popped out a beautiful baby girl who I haven't meant as of yet (Update: I've now meant Abby and I of course love her to bits, but I'm just now finishing this up), but I know that I already love her. I was recently inspired by a Pinterest find to make a list of the 50 most important life lessons that I want to teach little Abby before she has to learn them for herself.
1. Stand up for what you believe in.
2. When dealing with difficult people don't be a doormat, but don't be a brick wall. Compromise is the easiest way to deal with those who give you a headache.
3. Always own a nice pair of heels.
4. Always own several pairs of nice boots.
5. Eye contact is very important. Always use it when talking to others.
6. You have two ears and one mouth. Listen twice as much as you talk.
7. Unless you can add something intelligent to the conversation it's better to just keep you mouth shut.
8. Say less than what you know.
9. Show less than what you have.
10. Never end a sentence in a preposition.
12. Do as I say, not as I do.
13. Work hard.
14. Rules were meant to be broken. Think of them more like guidelines.
15. Well behaved women rarely make history.
16. Play harder.
17. Laugh. A lot.
18. When it comes to most things, quality over quantity. Friends included.
19. Kiss lots of boys (or girls if that's what you like), but don't sleep around. Save that for someone special.
20. Cowgirls don't cry.
18. Never never happens.
19. When life gets tough you just keep going.
20. Life is a bitch. So slap that ass! (Something your mother used to tell me all the time!)
21. You are always responsible for how you act.
22. No one can make you feel badly, that is a choice you make for yourself.
23. You can do anything you set your mind too.
24. Be willing to work hard, and I mean really hard, for what you want.
25. Lack of passion is fatal.
26. Always have a passion for something and do that something often.
27. Be classy, sassy, and a little bit smart assy.
28. Logic is lovely.
29. Family is so important. But so are those friends who become family.
30. The world belongs to those who are willing to get their hands dirty.
31. What doesn't kill you will make you stronger.
32. Everything happens for a reason.
33. Have fun in college, but get good grades. You'll regret it later if you don't do both.
34. Be nice to everyone. You never know who they really are.
35. Keep "no" out of your vocabulary when it comes to adventures.
36. Don't make excuses. Either do it or don't.
37. You will be beautiful, there is no doubt, but always remember looks fad.
38. Always be more than just a pretty face.
39. Know when to say no. Times to say no: you are already over booked, you need some alone time, or you really just don't want too.
40. You will do stupid things in your life. That's how you learn. Don't worry about that part. Just make sure you learn a lesson from those stupid things, otherwise you've wasted your stupid moment.
41. Your elders really do know more then you. Talk to us. We've been through those stupid, frustrating, annoying moments in life already.
42. I know it's hard (I rarely did it), but try to listen to your elders advice. It'll save you some frustration in the long run.
43. Watch others and learn from their mistakes so you don't have to make the same ones.
44. Force yourself out of your comfort zone. Don't stay in the box. You'll miss out on a LOT!
45. Life is to short to listen to boring music.
46. Go dancing. A lot.
47. Don't let yourself get old. Go out on a work night every now and then. The next day will suck, but you'll live. And it'll be worth it.
48. No ones perfect. Don't expect it from anyone, yourself included.
49. Communication is key. To everything in life.
50. We (me, your mom, your dad, and Uncle Jordy) love you and always will.
